Learn More |
We encourage parents to review their children(s) immunization records and make sure they are up to date. Although we respect each person’s free choice, we have a bigger responsibility to all of the patient’s that we care for. Because of this, Wheatfield Pediatrics does NOT accept NEW PATIENTS who have decided not to immunize their children or who seek a delayed immunization schedule.
Important Policy : Vitamin K Requirement for Newborns
At Wheatfield Pediatrics, our top priority is the health and safety of every child entrusted to our care. To ensure the highest standard of medical care and to protect against preventable health risks, we do not accept patients (newborn) who do not receive the vitamin K injection at birth.
The vitamin K shot is a standard, evidence-based preventive measure recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics to prevent Vitamin K Deficiency Bleeding (VKDB) — a rare but potentially life-threatening condition that can occur in newborns who do not receive adequate vitamin K. All newborns must receive the intramuscular vitamin K injection in the hospital prior to being accepted into our practice.
Families choosing to decline the vitamin K injection for their newborn will need to seek pediatric care with a provider whose policies align with their preferences.
We understand that parents make decisions based on what they believe is best for their child, and we respect every family's right to make informed choices. However, our medical policies reflect our commitment to following current best practices and protecting the wellbeing of all our patients.

Billing Reminder To Our Patient Families
We would like to remind our patients that telehealth services, via telephone or video, and after hour phone calls by a medical provider are billable services.
Wheatfield Pediatrics will submit all charges for these services rendered to your insurance; however, your co-pay, co-insurance and deductible amounts are deducted from your insurance payment. According to your health insurance plan you may be responsible to share in the cost of your care. Your insurance company notifies us of any patient responsibility which is then billed to you.
We are sympathetic to the financial burdens many have experienced; however, we cannot waive or discount patient copays or deductibles for services rendered because we would be in violation of federal and state fraud and abuse laws as well as insurance contract requirements. |
Wheatfield Pediatrics is affiliated with the John R. Oishei Children's Hospital: Please note....effective May 14, 2018 the physicians at Wheatfield Pediatrics will no longer perform hospital rounding on our newborn admissions. What happens in the first 3 days of life is so unique that many hospitals are now hiring pediatricians whose sole job is to be neonatal hospitalists. These physicians are available in the hospital daily which allows them to be readily available to handle any sudden changes in your child. While we have loved being in the hospitals for you in the newborn period; we feel that someone, whose sole job is to manage the immediate post natal period by their presence in the hospital, is able to provide your newborn with immediate access and the very best level of care until we see your baby in our office.
